Catherine McKinnell becomes interim TSC chair

Labour MP Catherine McKinnell has been appointed interim chair of the Treasury select committee.
The vacancy arose because former chair Nicky Morgan joined Boris Johnson’s cabinet as secretary of state for digital, culture, media and sport.
Labour MP John Mann was originally named as interim chair a week ago, however days later he quit the party in protest over the anti-semitism scandal.
Mann has been nominated to the House of Lords by Theresa May after she previously hired him as an adviser to the government on anti-semitism.
McKinnell is MP for Newcastle Upon Tyne North and has served on the Treasury select committee since 2017.
Before becoming an MP, McKinnell was an employment solicitor and since joining the House of Commons she has held several shadow cabinet roles.
McKinnell has been involved in supporting the campaign by Women Against State Pension Inequality and is vice chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the issue.
